Surgery

Pet surgery is performed in our operating room under full general anaesthesia, with premedications for pain and anxiety. Our patients are usually intubated, and placed on monitoring equipment. The affected area will be clipped free of hair and prepared for surgery, with skin cleansers to reduce the chance of contamination and infection.

Surgery is then performed. On completion, the patient is allowed to gently, wake up. Recovery is monitored and animals are soothed and cared for by our nurses, then, when ready, they are sent home, with pain relief medications. After any surgery, it is best that the patient does not lick or chew at their wounds, some require an Elizabethan collar to prevent licking. Licking can cause postoperative infection and prolong healing time.
