VETERINARIAN

Dr. Lesa Potten

One of my earliest cherished memories from childhood involved me scaling over a freshly installed childproof fence, embarking on an exciting adventure alongside my faithful companion, Jubils, the family corgi. Since then, my life has been a series of remarkable journeys, often accompanied by the company of animals.

After completing my studies at Sydney University, I faced the daunting challenge of finding employment amidst a severe drought and a deep recession. However, I persevered and secured a position in a mixed animal practice located in Inverell, nestled on the picturesque Northern Tablelands of NSW. Under the guidance and support of my boss, Bob Hunter, who had recently established a new clinic in this charming country town, I became the sole veterinarian, marking the first-ever female vet in their team. As a fresh graduate, it was a steep learning curve, from attending late-night calvings and foalings to performing caesarian sections on Labradors with the owners lending a helping hand!

Seeking new horizons, I decided to embark on an adventure and purchased a one-way ticket to London, where I embarked on locum work across the UK. Fate had other plans for me as I fell in love with the Irish accent, eventually meeting and marrying my wonderful husband, Tim. We settled in Edinburgh and later London. However, after our daughter turned four, I found myself yearning for the clear skies, the invigorating scent of eucalyptus, and the soothing rhythm of the ocean surf. This led us to make Canberra our home, and I eventually partnered with Helen Purdam at Hall Vet Surgery, enjoying 12 fruitful years together. As time went on, I established Vets at Amaroo and, in 2020, successfully sold these practices. Alongside these achievements, I completed an MBA from UNSW and pursued further education by obtaining a certificate IV in Business and Life coaching.

Currently, my family and I reside on a quaint farm near Yass, surrounded by the joys of nature. Here, we share our lives with three beautiful children, two adorable cats, a loyal kelpie, and an abundance of wildlife, including kangaroo mobs, shuffling echidnas, and wandering wombats.

In February 2023, I had the privilege of purchasing Chatswood Vet Clinic from Fiona. My primary focus now is to continue and expand upon the legacy of a compassionate and caring family veterinary clinic, where your beloved pets are embraced as part of our extended family.
